ABOUT BROADSTONE MILL

The History Of The Mill

Broadstone Mill is steeped in history dating back to 1904 when it was first officially registered as the Broadstone Spinning Company.

In its heyday it was the largest and most modern mill in Europe and since then it has served the Reddish community for many generations, employing millions of people in the last century. The longstanding mill has seen a number of structural changes since its inception and has been subjected to a couple of closures but it has stood the test of time and today we are very proud of its impressive heritage.

After a period of extensive refurbishment in 2001, Broadstone Mill was given a new lease of life and it re-opened its doors as the rejuvenated building we see today. The surrounding area where Broadstone Mill is situated was also regenerated and re-named as Houldsworth Village. This is now a thriving business community within the heart of Reddish, near Stockport and in 2008 the overall redevelopment project was named winner in the ‘Boosting Productivity’ category at the Regeneration and Renewal Awards.

Future plans for Broadstone mill include the reconstruction of the south building, as well as renovation work on the canal basin to create a marina at the front of the mill.

The Mill Today

The building was stylishly and sympathetically redesigned to the highest spec in 2001 and many of its original features were kept to reflect the traditional use of the mill including an ornamental water tower with a copper cupola which houses the lift shaft.

Comprising five impressive floors above ground level and a large basement, the red brick mill is well equipped to offer a range of versatile workspace and facilities – including business incubation, studio based accommodation, managed/serviced workspace, retail outlets and industrial units.

Currently providing nearly 80 office spaces in a variety of sizes ranging from 230 sq ft to 16,228 sq ft the mill is expanding year on year. It is also a key shopping destination the mill is professionally run and well-managed by its owners.
